HQ 28 Sector Assam Rifles and 27 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR(S) organised a ‘Plantation Drive’ at the Kakching garrison on 10 July 2012. The focus of the drive was to further the undeterred efforts of Assam Rifles towards preserving the bounty of the nature. A total of 250 saplings were planted. Brigadier RN Mathur, Commander 28 Sector Assam Rifles led the drive from the forefront and planted a sapling. Enthusiastic students also participated in the noble act of planting trees. During his interaction with the students the Commander 28 Sector brought out that tree-hugging and dirt worshipping had become a trend in most of the urban cities of the country, where development and urbanization have been stealthily taking over the green canopy that these cities once had to offer. He exhorted the students to be the instruments of change. A Drawing competition for the School Children on the theme “Importance of Trees in Our Lives” was also conducted on the occasion and prizes were distributed to the students. In another occasion, 28 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under the aegis of HQ IGAR(S) organised a plantation drive under ‘Go Green Fortnight’ programme at Lilong Turel Ahanbi and Keithelmanbi on 10 Jul 2012. Prominent personnel including State police officials, village heads, Zilla Parishad members participated in the drive and planted over 2000 fruit bearing trees in the area. Commandant 28 Assam Rifles graced the occasion and emphasized upon benefits of green environment and ill effect of Global Warming. He also dwelled on undertaking more arboriculture activity in the area to preserve the environment and help the local populace in promoting arboriculture activities. Similarly,15 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) carried out tree plantation in association with students and villagers in Mayai Keithel area on 09 Jul 2012 More than 500 trees were planted and “GO GREEN MARCH” was also organised from Mayai Keithel to Chandrakhong in which more than two hundred students participated. Gifts and sweets were also distributed during the function . Meanwhile,6 DOGRA of 26 Sector conducted Go Green Plantation Drive at Moltuk on 09 Jul 12.
