GO GREEN DRIVE

44 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) organised Tree Plantation and cultural programmes at Kamjong/Chassad as a part of “Go Green Drive”. The drive was organised at Kamjong football ground, a large of people from neighbouring villages and some civilians from Myanmar too witnessed the function. A Cultural programme to convey the message was also organised on the occasion in true traditional manner. Naga and Kuki dances in traditional attire were performed by both tribes and was participated by both Tangkhul Naga and Kuki communities in a friendly manner. Brigadier AK Pandey, VSM, Commander 10 Sector AR was the Chief Guest, village authorities, dignitaries and School children were attended the function. Speaking on the occasion Commander 10 Sect AR and Commandant 44 Assam Rifles exhorted the people to contribute in “Go Green Drive”, also requested the people to discourage people who are indulged in deforestation and expressed the Assam Rifles commitment to maintain and improve the greenery of the hill area. In another occasion, 27 Assam Rifles of HQ 9 Sector under HQ IGAR(S) organised a ‘Plantation Drive’ on 07 July 2012 at Munpi village, Chandel district and saplings of fruits trees were planted. Similarly, 18 SIKH along with the teachers and students of the Brighter English Academy, Oinam organized a “Tree Plantation drive” at Maibam Lokpaching as a part of the “GO GREEN DRIVE”. The tree plantation programme was conducted as an initiative towards a “Greener Manipur” and to raise the awareness among the local populace with a special focus on the younger generation to imbibe the importance of trees in our lives. A large number of fruit bearing saplings were planted in the drive. Mean while,33 Assam Rifles of 27 Sector under the aegis of IGAR(S) organised a ‘Go Green Drive’ on 05 July 2012 in the areas of Sendra, Kumbi, Moirang Khunou, Komlakhong, and Karang in Bishnupur District. The occasion was marked by plantation of over 2500 saplings which includes ornamental, fruit bearing and other forest trees.
